No, Mr Orbán and Mr Morawiecki, the rule of law is not a question of sovereignty or subsidiarity but a founding principle of the European Union to protect our citizens.
That's why Poland and Hungary signed up to it when they joined.
And why it is non-negotiable now !

The more you engage in the EU, the more you gain👇🏻 and all EU countries get more than their money’s worth ! 🇪🇺 ... See MoreSee Less
The single market the Euro the peace the freedom to travel study work living in any EU members & associates the power to defend ours way of living traditions and lot more against the attack of the rest of the world this is the EU the greatest achievement of the last Century, let's move forwards and reach the finishing line ONE EU COUNTRY
We will take governments membership fee take a small percentage line our own pockets. Then give them some money back out of the money they just gave us to fund projects to make the eu look brilliant 👏 .
so true . shame 38% of British voters didnt get how EU works and Government have let them ruin our economy as a result . not to mention take away some very significant freedoms
How did they calculate the benefits? What's the methodology? What kinds of benefits have been included? I've always known that the benefits of the single market outweigh the contribution of each country to the EU but I've also wondered how exactly these benefits should be measured?
The problem is that it is intended to be a federation and that won't work.
Yes...in the UK the EU funded projects and the multifaceted advantages in poor regions were never explained. Reliable information to educate really did matter. The objective view.
This graph should be placed all over Europe. Vast majority of Europe's population probably has no information about their direct gains of being part of EU.
I have no idea why this sort of detail and evidence was not shown and used in the build up to the referendum in the UK.
This is quite misleading. Those countries in the bottom of the list have incompetent leaderships and corruption, which divert EU funds for questionable projects and a lot of special interests and even buying a damn airline **cough**Portugal**cough**. Unless the EU forces specific anti-corruption policies and transparency to be properly implemented and monitoring of EU funds, the contributions for these countries should not be increased.
EU does not just mean weighting benefits and costs. EU is above all the guarantee of a peace and solidarity on our continent
Guy you really like to trigger the vast amount of brexiteers that follow you (not sure why the do to be honest), but I can't help but laugh at them all getting all defensive and upset 🤣
Uou guys need to face facts and home truths the majority voted out so out we go All this modeling isn't worth anything If we thought polls were a true reflection we would not bother about elections
So sad not to see UK in that chart. It breaks my heart that we would break our country for nothing. But we’ll be back. Hopefully in my lifetime.
Look at the discrepancy tho ! Who would be happy with such inequality ? The rich get richer the poor gets poorer !
And we did! Lots of EU funded projects that the Tories won’t fund!
Guy Verhofstadt would be nice an explanation of this graph or a link to an article explaining it. It looks "convincing", but what does it mean "Benefits of the Single Market"?
The concept of 'sharing' across societies and nations is anathema to British Tories- (unlike sharing among their personal friends)- sorry they gave been allowed into power here Guy. However Scotland seems to understand, and with a fair wind will be headed back to Europe soon.
It is common sense if you live alone the cost of living is high if you live in a shared house the costs are shared making it cheaper for every individual. Its not rocket science.
The trouble is that most people just never realised how much we got back from the EU, the tories never praised the subsidies we received and the projects that they funded, it is only now that these are coming to light, now its too late !
It would be useful to explain how apparently more money gets paid out than is paid in. I am a supporter of the EU but it is appropriate to question such unexplained discrepancies.
It’s great that you finally post the benefits of the single market! Until now how much each country was paying into the budget was mentioned, so populists in the “rich” countries were apprehensive and angry that they had to pay so much! Nobody was telling them how much they gain. That’s why the Brits are gone, because all they were seeing was their contributions. If they saw charts with the benefits they might have changed their views. I remember some English and Dutch accusing Greece of being a “freeloader” because according to the contributions to the EU budget we paid so little into it. I tried to explain to them about the benefits that they are receiving, but I did not have simple charts such as this. Now finally EU politicians are doing what needed to be done decades ago. Explain to the countries that contribute a lot, that they gain the most from the single market and to balance that to the countries that lose out, like Greece which is way to the bottom of the chart, they pay more into the block’s budget. There can’t be a union among states if the truth is not known to the public and politicians of each country use and present the benefits of EU membership as a personal or national achievement. If half view the other half as “freeloaders” solely by half the information provided. The truth being manipulated to serve political interests!!
The EU Single Market and the Euro are the smartest things we have ever done. You can buy just about anything online in the EU, the Single Market is enormous, and have it delivered in a few days. No customs duty or inspection delays, no foreign currency transaction costs, no excessive postage costs - we take this for granted but it is a fantastic creation and we must protect it.
Just look at how the Westminster government has filled their own pockets during this pandemic and now giving the public sector a pay freeze when they kept the country going during the pandemic and now the destruction of Brexit 🤦♀️ all I want to shout loud and clear SCOTLAND 🏴 VOTED REMAIN !!!
Just think how much money the British tax payers have pumped into the EU, only to be treated like dirt and contempt, ungrateful bastards
I concur with every word. From 80 yr old furious at brexit Brit
