Ukraine: "Marine Le Pen makes a fool of herself. France deserves much better"

Guy Verhofstadt responds to Marine Le Pen's claim that the EU provoked a Cold War with Russia: "her alliance with Putin is based on the breach of international law and state sovereignty"
"It is shocking to see how easily Mrs. Le Pen sides with autocratic leaders that invade other countries under false pretexts. The truth is that Ukraine's new prime minister, Arseniy Yastenyuk, has a majority in his parliament with which he tries to put his country on the tracks again. However, his attempt to reestablish financial and political stability is constantly undermined by illegal actions, often directly inspired or instigated by Mr. Putin's entourage.

Marine Le Pen's Front National and Vladimir Putin's Russia made an alliance of convenience that is based on the neglect of international law and the breach of state sovereignity. Justifying military occupation of a country that is a member state of the Council of Europe throws us back in time.

The "Cold war" Le Pen refers to exists only in the mindset of Putin and his state controlled propaganda machine. What happens in Ukraine today is nothing more than an illegitimate land grab. Marine Le Pen makes a fool of herself and her voters. France deserves much better."
