Guy Verhofstadt attended the liberal prime ministers' meeting today ahead of the informal European Council

Conclusion of the meeting was that the political groups of the EPP and the PES parties lost 70 seats in the May 22-25 election. This means that ALDE will be key to the formation of a stable parliamentary majority in the European parliament.

The clear message from the voters in this election is that the EU needs a new agenda.

It is evident that without structural reform the European Union will loose the truts of all its citizens.

Given the loss of seats for the two major parties, ALDE is key to bring about the reform that gives the EU a more dynamic economy, a more just society and a more open and transparent government at EU level.

ALDE is ready to play its part in this process.
